On Friday, November 6, CSNC’s new AmeriCorps members and volunteers successfully restored another illegal road that was impacting the Jones Fork of Silver Creek in the Crystal Basin on the Eldorado National Forest. This hardy crew braved the cold to clean up trash, dismantled illegal and dangerous fire rings, smooth out rills and gullies and disguise the unauthorized route with a mulch of native materials to protect the fragile soils from winter storms. Thank you to all our hard-working volunteers.
The Eldorado National Forest has over 2,000 miles of roads and trails open for vehicles. These user-created roads are not only unnecessary, but they do immense environmental damage. They are also illegal.
