March 4-11 was AmeriCorps Week, so we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge our AmeriCorps members, Jessy and Caleb, as well as other AmeriCorps members serving in our community. Maggie Regis is working with the El Dorado County and Georgetown Divide Resource Conservation Districts as their Conservation Assistant. Ryan Delaney serves as the Education and Outreach Coordinator at the American River Conservancy along with Marianne Lehnert, who is the Stewardship and Outreach Coordinator at ARC. These five AmeriCorps members are part of SNAP, a partnership between AmeriCorps and the Sierra Nevada Alliance.
Jessy, Caleb, and Maggie were invited to El Dorado High School on March 8th to speak about the AmeriCorps program and life as a member. Many of the students seemed very interested in the idea of serving with AmeriCorps as an option after high school. It was awesome to see such an enthusiastic response! It’s important to get young people interested in working towards the betterment of their communities early on, which is one of the great things about the AmeriCorps program. We may even have some new volunteers for CSNC’s restoration projects!
