The Center for Sierra Nevada Conservation, established in 1986, is a non-profit environmental and educational organization based in El Dorado County.  Over the past three decades, the Center has advocated for the protection of Sierra Nevada habitat and wildlife on the Eldorado National Forest and in El Dorado County.  This fundraiser supports the Center’s tireless work, including ongoing meadow and stream restoration projects in the National Forest.

Keith Little is a nationally acclaimed multi-instrumental bluegrass musician whose credits include performing on GRAMMY award-winning recordings of Dolly Parton and the Chieftains.  He is also a featured member of the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience. For this benefit concert, he is joined by “The Littleband”, five talented musicians who bring a traditional bluegrass sound to a contemporary blend of bluegrass, folk, blues and gospel harmonies and songs.

A native of the Sierra Nevada foothills of northern California, Keith Little is a nationally acclaimed musician, vocalist, recording artist, composer, and producer.  Born into a musical family, he was first introduced to string band music by his father and quickly developed his own talents on the guitar, five-string banjo, mandolin, and fiddle.  Shortly after performing his first professional engagement in 1969, Keith met and began performing with local bluegrass legends Vern & Ray.  This collaboration eventually evolved into his tenure with Rose Maddox and the Vern Williams Band in what has proven to be a milestone in West Coast country music.

Over a career spanning forty years, Keith has been an important member of many national bluegrass touring bands, including the Country Gentlemen, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Lonesome Standard Time and others. His credits include performing on the GRAMMY award-winning recordings “The Grass Is Blue” and “Little Sparrow” by Dolly Parton, and “Another Country” by the Chieftains.  With his “smooth as silk” vocals, Keith is also a featured member of the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience and the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band.  Keith’s composing skills are no less “world class”, with his songs having been recorded by Crystal Gayle, Longview, Claire Lynch, Tim O’Brien, and the Whites (among others), and he is an honorary lifetime member of the California Bluegrass Association.

Centered around Keith’s creative work on guitar and vocals, the LittleBand is a collaborative ensemble encompassing a wide range of styles.  The sound is rooted in traditional bluegrass, gospel and blues,  expanding out from those roots with the combined talents of band members Michael Witcher on dobro and vocals, Josh Tharp on banjo and vocals, Luke Abbott on fiddle and vocals, and Steve Swan on string bass and vocals. The result is both authentic in its roots and unique in its sound.
Observes Keith, “I see music more as a shape or color than a style. Rich and round, like a supper plate. And this group can really serve it up.  The material we perform is taken from both traditional and contemporary sources, performed on acoustic instruments and human voices in vibrant harmony and rendered with heartfelt care.”

A “Giant Raffle” will also be held the night of the event, with raffle prizes including a Family Pass to Disneyland: San Francisco Ballet, Mondavi Center, B Street Theatre and Capital Stage tickets, as well as tickets to other regional events and attractions; beautiful hand-crafted items by local artists and crafts people; and much more.   Click here to see the raffle prizes.
